To search for Dow Jones Category Codes:
- Right-click in a Dow Jones news index and select Edit Index
In the search dialog box:
- Use the line of text boxes to add search statements to your filter. Enter one line at a time as follows:
Connector: Ignore this box for the first line. For the next line, click the arrow connected to this box and select AND or OR to begin your line. These are standard Boolean operators. AND will return titles only if the preceding line and this one are true (that is, the keyword or category selected is included in the news title). OR will return titles if either the preceding line or this one is true.
Source: Click the drop-down arrow and select a news source for this line. You can search a different source for each line of a general news filter. To search the entire general news database, select the asterisk (*) at the top of this list.
Type: Click the drop-down arrow and select a search type for this line — either Category or Keyword. Some news sources require a category code and others do not. Most of the time you will be searching for a keyword.
Value: Type the specific category or keyword for the search, or click the drop-down arrow and select from those recently used. When entering keywords, searches are case sensitive. You can also include “wildcards” in your keywords.
- When the line is complete, click the Add button to the right of it.
- To enter another line of search criteria, repeat the steps above for Type and Value, and click on Add..

Opening a Filtered index

Use a question mark to indicate any one character.
Examples:
