ProphetX maintains two news databases.

  • The scrolling news database – Scrolling news stories are generated as the news comes in from the various contributors and continually generates additional stories as they come in. If there is new information, a new story is generated and the last story is dropped from the list. Typically, scrolling news is saved for about 30 days, depending on activity. Once the time limit is up the stories are dropped from the list.
  • The fixed page database contains page-based data such as contributed pages and weather maps, whose content is subject to change over time. The term “fixed” is used to reflect the fact that your subscription includes a specific set of pages. Fixed pages update live on your screen as data is received (e.g., a new radar image, a change in a currency rate). Therefore you can leave a fixed page story open in your workbook indefinitely. It will update right in that page and headlines will never be dropped from the list unless the data contributor makes major changes to their news segments.

Tips:

  • You can think of scrolling news as top headlines coming in minute by minute. The fixed page data can come in a different time frames, such as once per day, once per week, etc., and replace the current data in the story at that time interval.
  • When linking news and quotes, the system will do only a scrolling news search based on the ticker symbols description. If you want all possible news stories related to that product, you will have to do a fixed new search as well.
  • Fixed news page data can be linked to a spreadsheet and updated when that data updates in the page. However, sometimes the data sources change the format of the pages and your data might get skewed in the spreadsheet.
