ProphetX news filters provides powerful filtering options to narrow your search for information.

You can save these filters and edit them as required to meet current needs. News filters can be anything from a simple keyword search to a collection of specific search statements. In addition, many news sources can only be accessed via a category code.

Right-click on a News Index, select Edit Index

News Edit

Use the next line of text boxes to add search statements to your filter. Enter one line at a time as follows:

  • Connector – Ignore this box for the first line you type. For the next line, click the arrow connected to this text box and select AND or OR to begin your line.  These are standard Boolean operators. AND will return titles only if the preceding line and this one are true (that is, the keyword or category matches). OR will return titles if either the preceding line or this one is true
  • Source – Click on the drop-down arrow and select a news source
  • Type – Click the drop-down arrow and select a search type for this line — either Title, Category, Body or Title & Body.
    • Title – search for a keyword in the headline
    • Body – search for a keyword in the body of the story
    • Category – select Category. The value would be the code for that page
  • Value – Type the specific category coder or keyword for the search or click the attached arrow and select from those recently used. When entering keywords, use all lowercase or all uppercase letters unless you want the search to be case sensitive. You can also include wildcards in your keywords.

When the line is complete, click the Add button. To enter another line, repeat steps for Type and Value above.

Opening a Filtered index,

  • Locate it in the Files docked pane window
  • Double click on the filter name or icon or drag it to the ProphetX work area

Using Wild cards in News Filters

Entering soy as a keyword will return only headlines with the word “soy” in them. Use the following wildcards to expand the search.

Use a question mark to indicate any one character.

Examples:

soy??? will return soyoil, but not soy or soybean

soy???? will return soybean, but not soy or soyoil

Use an asterisk to indicate any number of characters, including none.

Example: soy* will return soy, soyoil, and soybean
